St Moritz

A month ago I was enjoying summer on the southern hemisphere, but what is Christmas without snow? With almost 10 degrees in Paris I had to look for another option, and of course I found one high in the Swiss Alps: St Moritz.

The snow, the relative comfort of the Club Med, but especially the quality personal ski coach resulted in a very special Christmas indeed. I’ve skied for many years but never enjoyed private lessons. The progress made last week was astonishing and I skied on slopes I wouldn’t normally venture myself on.

Not so sure about St Moritz though, or better, about the people spending their holidays there. Over the last year I have enjoyed a real jet set lifestyle and to be honest I like the luxury hotels and modes of travel, but I haven’t made many friends in those places. So back to Val Thorens next time.

Paris (deuxieme partie)

I just spent a very pleasant week in my new habitat. Read (or tried to read) some newspapers, had some long walks across town, visited the Louvre and shopped at the Galeries Lafayette.

Also I had dinner at Le Meurice, went clubbing at the VIP Room and finished the night eating the best croissants ever in a dodgy looking bakery.

Met some nice people and ran into some less nice creatures. Got stuck in traffic and had a fantastic view over the city from a helicopter.

And all that just in 1 week, and I’ll be here for at least another 51.

Pied-à-terre Paris

With Paris being my favourite city and the fact that I like to spend time abroad (as you might have noticed already), I thought I might combine the two for a while. So I’ve rented my own little pied-à-terre in the vibrant Marais district.

I won’t be spending all my time in the City of Light, there will have to be some travelling obviously. Also I will return home regularly. But after having visited the French capital on many occasions, I will now have a feeling of what it feels like as a citizen of this majestic city.

So time to work on my French, meet some new people and start eating croissants….. daily.

Cape Town

To escape the coming winter I set off to Cape Town, South Africa. A bit of sun, a bit of sea and a bit of lobster and wine at Belthazar.

But the main reason I’m here this particular week, is to see the Dave Matthews Band. When I crossed the US at the end of the summer, I didn’t get anywhere near one of their gigs. So it seemed the perfect excuse to visit Cape Town.

So last night (and tonight, might as well check them out twice) I was at the Grand West Grand Arena for another brilliant show of the greatest band in the world. Grey Street, Jimi Thing, Corn Bread, Don’t Drink the Water, they played them all.

So very much looking forward to tonight’s show and the coming days in this beautiful country.

Mercedes SLS AMG

By now it’s pretty obvious I like cars, and after having crossed a continent listening to the wonderful sound of a V8 it’s time to get my own, while it’s still possible to get one.

Luckily, in my opinion, the nicest V8 sound comes in the best looking package: the Mercedes SLS AMG.

Mercedes recently announced the production of this awesome car will end soon, so there was no time to waste.  So my ‘Silberpfeile’ will be exactly that, grey and fast as an arrow.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my 911. It’s beautiful, fast and reliable but the sound of the flat 6 can’t compare with a V8. I will obviously keep it, as that’s my daily drive, but I can’t wait for some nice weather and go across Europe in the Merc.
